Ski Trip 7th July 2017

On the last day of Term Two we had a perfect day for skiing up at The Remarkables ski-field at Queenstown - those who didn't want to go stayed in class with Mrs Shepherd for some craft and cooking.

Those who skied enjoyed their lessons, with many of us eventually building up enough skill to be able to take a ride up the chairlift to try the longer, higher ski runs. It was a great day thanks to our awesome adult helpers and the have-a-go attitudes of the pupils - well done everyone!

Here are a few shots of the action up on the mountain (the shadowy photos are from during the lessons, before the sun had risen over the ridge)...

Our alevin are hatching!

And what are alevin you might ask...they are the baby salmon that hatch from the salmon eggs that are in the tank - we are raising some chinook salmon as part of Southland Fish and Game's 'Schools to Streams' program.

We had hoped the eggs might start to hatch before the holidays started, but that wasn't to be...Mrs C has called into school today and this is what she has discovered! It is very exciting!

Delivering speeches

This week we are thinking about how to deliver a speech...and looking at a couple of examples from last year; we are considering such things as movements/actions, use of our voices, and use of cue cards.

We are also checking that we have written interesting introductions, suitable conclusions, and have got lots of relevant examples or information in between!
