ANZAC Day - paying our respects

Last Tuesday was New Zealand's ANZAC Day holiday to honour those who have served our country in the armed forces.  Many of our school students and staff attended the Edendale Parade, with our Student Council laying a wreath of remembrance on behalf of our school...

Some of last term's action...

Kody and Rueben built the new worm farm, ready to fill up in Term Two...thanks guys!

These awesome authors practised their reporting skills with articles about local news events - you can read the articles here:

These mathematicians shared their duck-shooting/roar hunting shopping lists with our Principal, Mr McKenzie. They'd been working out how much they spent in total on their five items and how much they'd saved!

Art and writing - I Spy...

Last term we practised some sketching, with a focus on the face - we worked on sketching eyes and selected our best sketch for display. Mrs C thinks we have all done a fantastic job - we were helped by these instructions.

We have combined these for display with some complex sentences that we wrote in response to a short animated fantasy film called 'Adrift' (in which, we decided, the whales are metaphors for a healthy planet and a non-healthy planet) - you can watch the clip here at the Literacy Shed site.

Here is a slideshow of our finished work...

Highlanders visit and PB4L winners

Congratulations to Kerri and Rueben who were our team's highest scoring boy and girl for getting stamps on their cafe cards for this term's value of Manaakitanga-Respect - well done - you both deserve it! Big thanks to Subway for the vouchers too!

To finish off the term we had a flying visit from three (injured) members of the Highlanders rugby squad: (L-R: Jason Emery, Hayden Parker and Brendon Edmonds) who were on their way to Invercargill for some promotional activities before next week's game against the Japanese Sun Wolves.

DRIVE Technology

Today we are looking at some products and discussing the postives/negatives/the reasons for adapting the products etc.

First we will check out some great inventions that were invented by...kids!

And now we are breaking into groups to do a 'techno-talk' about these cool new inventions...
