Fun skills with the Sports Activator

Today we had a great skills session with Bodean Cowley, the Eastern Southland Sports Activator.

We worked on some throwing and running skills with a few different games to apply them to...with a good half hour so swimming on top of this, we should all sleep very well tonight!

This week's THINK ABOUT IT...

Year Six Welcome

Last week we held our annual Year Six Welcome - a formal event in which we invite parents and special guests to show their support of our new 'crew' of Year Sixes as they undertake their special role as senior leaders of our school.

Each of the Year Sixes had a turn at introducing speakers, thanking speakers or asking questions. Some of us were a bit nervous but everyone did really well!

Our special guests to speak to the children were: BOT Chairperson Mrs Vicky Lumsden, Bible In School Teacher Mrs Liz Pask, and our Principal Mr David McKenzie and our main classroom teacher Mrs Coyle.

We had a panel of ex-pupils, all from Menzies College, who answered questions about what it is like to be a Year Six and how this helped them prepare for their move to college. The panel were: Breana Harvey, Joseph Ferguson, Maria Perriam and Zayden Moir.

Our special guest speaker was another ex-pupil, Caleb Young. Caleb was Head Boy at Menzies College in 2015 and is about to begin his second year at Otago University, studying a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in International Business.  In January Caleb was a member of the Southland Stags Sevens team that competed at the National tournament in Rotorua.

Caleb also helped congratulate the new Student Councillors that Mrs Coyle announced - the voting was held on Wednesday last week and our new Council is: Jacob, Chad, Asha, Paige, Daisy and Gabby.

Caleb had really great advice for all of us and we all hope we can be as successful as he has been with his study and his rugby career - if we set good goals and work hard like he does, with support from good role-models, then we will do fine!

Pop art self portraits underway

We are creating some funky self portraits...we've traced the main outlines of our photos (blown up to A3) and are now using crayon to do black outlines and coloured patterns in each section.

Tomorrow we will dye each section a different colour.

Superhero Pictures

Today three of us shared our 'All About Me Superhero' pictures with our principal, Mr McKenzie - we'd had to draw or colour certain parts of our superhero depending on our personal answers to such things as what pets we have, how many siblings we have, how old we are, how we get to school, favourite subject etc.

Asha, Rayden and Connor all worked really well!
