Second print

Our art today was all about finishing our lino print pop-art portraits - what do you think?!

Real life maths today - women's shot put results

This morning we headed outside to measure the top eight place-getters for The Olympics Shot Put event...first we had to order the results, which Mrs C had mixed up.

We are super proud of Valerie Adams who won the silver medal with 20.42m, just being beaten in the last throw by American Michelle Carter who won with a throw of 20.63m!
Next we used a metre ruler, and the fact that we know a netball court is 30m long and divided into thirds (of 10m each), to mark out the women's measurements.
Our skills with adding and subtracting of decimals (as well as understanding that a metre is a whole, made of hundredths in the form of centimetres), helped us work forwards or backwards from the 20m line to make our marks.

Real life maths - Rio Women's Sevens

Here are our silver medal-winning NZ Black Ferns women's sevens rugby team results.

We are thinking about:
-points for and against
-possible number of unconverted tries scored (five points each)
-possible number of converted tries scored (seven points each)
- amount of time on the field (seven minute halves, ten minutes for a final).

Maths Mechanics - Olympic Winners

Task One:
to find information on previous Olympic winners and use this information to make a future prediction.

Prepare a presentation on the winning history of one Olympics event
- can be a men's or women's event
- must be able to share results from the past five Olympic Games
-include a graph to show times/distances for winners in the chosen event
-make a prediction for the event in Rio 2016 and describe the process you went through to work it out.

Pop art lino print portraits

This term we are working on making some lino print portraits, based on the different tones in a photo of ourselves.

We have traced the dark, medium and light areas of our faces onto the Lino and are now cutting away the lightest area in preparation for our first colour printing.

What do you notice? What do you see? What numbers can you use in your statements?
