DRIVE investigation - Water is an anytime drink!

Some further investigations for our DRIVE inquiry, this time looking into the importance of water for our good health...a good follow up to the discussion that took place this week with our visitor from the NZ Heart Foundation, Linda Harris, as well as the media publicity this week about the British tax on sugary drinks and the NZ Government's "water-only schools" policy.

Tasty treats today!

Today we farewelled Manmeet as she moves to a new school, enjoying one of Mrs's C's famous chocolate cakes - we wish Maneet and her brother and parents all the very best, we'll really miss you Manmeet!!

Our DRIVE group 'An apple a day' created some healthy 'crowded canoes' for us to balance out our afternoon snacks - they used celery, peanut butter or cottage cheese, rice bubbles and raisins.

The peanut butter canoes were the most popular!

World's Largest Cruise Ship

Today for our writing prompt we viewed this video - goodness, it is a massive ship - very hard for us to imagine but anything that is 18 decks high and can take over 8,000 people and has a public park, skating rink, 40 restaurants and at least 3 water-slides has GOT to be HUGE!

In case you miss it because you are too busy thinking "Woah!" it is 392m long!!

DRIVE - expert guest

The Apple A Day DRIVE group are inquiring into the sorts of healthy foods that we could have in our lunchboxes when at school.

They invited school parent, Mrs Mel McKenzie, to speak to them about healthy food for children.  Mrs McKenzie worked as a Public Health advisor and had a lot of useful knowledge to share with the group.

Thanks for your time Mrs McKenzie!!

Toyota Dream Car art contest

Good luck to the five young artists from Team Kahu who have created their dream car designs for the 2016 Toyota Dream Car contest - the top prize is a trip to Japan for the grand final! Entries were posted away this week - keep your fingers crossed for a winner from our team!

Check the designs out below - haven't they each thought of great roles for their vehicles to carry out?!

Chloe: This Toyota Multi Mission vehicle is a truck equipped to give food
to people in need around the world. We need to show people that we care for them.
Let's make people smile!
Liana: Super car: My car would be able to drive through fire and it would never
be able to break down and never have a dent or anything.
It would be able to go in fires and help people.
Lucy: This is my dream car Catmobile! Every time danger occurs the Catmobile will meow once.
Two people will control the Catmobile in the eyes where there is brown. The Catmobile feeds on old cat tins and creates a few more bits of cat food for stray cats around.
Asha: This is my dream car - it is called Furry Friend Rescue.
It drives around collecting and helping hurt animals and returning lost animals back
to their owners. Also rescuing animals that are being hurt or harmed.
Sophie: My car would be able to drive over rainbow and go to space
and it would never break down. It could save people in a rocket if they crashed.
